Does anyone know of a flower that can survive harsh winters and snow?

Like and it is beautiful? Does such a flower exsist? And if it doesn't, can you tell me the closest thing? Thanks so much for your help.

Does anyone know of a flower that can survive harsh winters and snow?
below is a list of flowers that do well in winter:

pansies

violas

iris:cantab

crocus:snow crocus

winter jasmine

creeping veronica:georgia blue

cyclamen

daffodils

hyacinth:grape hyacinth

amaryllis

tulips

freesia

heath

hellebores
Reply:a Venus fly trap is the closest
Reply:Pansies will bloom throughout the fall and winter. They come in all colors. They're not beautiful, but they are pretty.
Reply:Crocus. Tulips. Anything artificial.
Reply:There are plenty of perennials that survive the winter and rebloom in the spring. crocuses, for example, will actually sprout and bloom while there is snow in the ground, usually in late feb to late march, depending on where you live. There are certain arctic plants that flower, but the summers in most of the U.S. would be too hot for them to survive. Go for bulbs, because they are extremely diverse, and will give you a welcome burst of color early in the spring. Daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, and dutch irises are good choices. Easy to grow, hardy, cheap, and prettty.
Reply:we always had bleeding hearts in our backyard in alberta and they were pretty hearty. Not sure if they have another name.
Reply:it's called a snowdrop

was recently doing the poem in school lol
Reply:There are several perenials (come back every year) that would be good choices. I have roses that the previous owner of our home couldn't kill. They are beautiful. It really depends where you live and how harsh your winters are. I would call a local greenhouse and find out what zone you are in and what plants are good for your zone. Good luck and God bless.
Reply:I know that pansies grow in winter.
Reply:haha no wat do u think i am a flower expert, but since im so nice im going to look it up 4 u.................

ok nvm too much work all i kno is a rose but thats it.

plant a weed, it is attractive and requires no work

lol jk...dont be a dipshi* and listen to me, i think im high right now ok im gonna stop tlking right now sry
Reply:I don't want to recommend anything since I don't know what Zone you are living, so the best thing you can do is buy a book on Perennials. Mark all in the book that is recommended for your Zone.

My book had been purchased 10+ years ago and is still my first choice to look through for any new landscaping job I plan whether it is for ground cover in shade, tree, shrub or flowers including when they bloom, for how long %26amp; how tall. There are many beautiful flowers that live through even Zone 3; there is even a flower that blooms through the snow.
Reply:There's lots of snow here and when I look outside I see blooming idiots!

Seriously, In Yosemite I used to see 'Snow Plants'. They have a red flower.
Reply:I know a rose can, they like the cold.

If i have snow melting on my flower garden will it cause problems to spruce up by adding another layer of mulc

You shouldn't have any problems. Go ahead and add your mulch.

Will snow kill my wild flower seeds?

I recently planted about 500,000 wild flower seeds on a hill side (about 5 days ago). I thought that winter was over but now the weather channel is predicting about 2-4 inches of snow (IN APRIL)...will this kill the seeds and stop them from germinating? I am in South Western PA if that helps. The temperatures are going to be in the high 30s low 40s for that day and like 2 days after but will be going back up to the 50s and 60s after that. Is there anything I can do to stop them from being destroyed if infact this little snow storm will kill the,?

Will snow kill my wild flower seeds?
If you planted them under the earth, then it will be ok i'm sure. the ground temp will save them.
Reply:wild flowers seed themselves on top of the ground each fall so survive the winter in whatever part of the country they naturally grow. If they are wild in your area of the country they should be just fine. In fact, snow often helps some plants to do better.
Reply:Mother nature has programed wild flowers to naturally re seed themselves. This means the flower seeds spend the winter out in the cold and sprout when conditions are right. They'll be fine.

It might be a different story if the seeds had sprouted ,as the tender shoots could freeze.
Reply:yes but normally grow back in spring plaints and seed have that re birthing cycle.
Reply:If they are under ground the snow should not hurt them, but if they are above the ground the snow will kill them.If it snows on them get the garden hose out and melt the snow off the flowers.

What is the theme of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See?
The book is mostly about friendship and how it was destroyed by certain things. It also has to do with power. Three conflicts i can think of that were mentioned were the foot bindings, arranged marriages, and motherhood oh and lonliness was mentioned.

What genre is the book "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan"?

the setting is real but the characters are fiction.

so is this book historical fiction or mystery/ thriller?

What genre is the book "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan"?
Historical fiction:

"Review:

"Lisa See...has conquered a new genre — the historical novel — with passion and grit....While the novel's plot, characters and pacing are all exceptional, the true success of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan lies in its cultural relativism." Portland Oregonain"

Is Atonement (Ian McEwan) or Snow flower and the secret fan (Lisa See) better to do a book report on?

I want to know particularly about Atonement. Is it a good book?

Is Atonement (Ian McEwan) or Snow flower and the secret fan (Lisa See) better to do a book report on?
I am not familiar with that Mc Ewan book but I have read his others. I like his work but he can be a difficult and dry read at times. Pax - C
Reply:I'd say snowflower.... i haven't read the other.. but Lisa See's book deals with actual subjects from history that you can use to your advantage.

You can compare her fictional characters to actual historical events to see what she changed for fiction, you can see what she kept the same et.

is it the type of book report where you take aspects of the book and write an essay..... then this is a good choice.

if it's the type of book report where you write what happened in the book in your own words, then any book will be a good choice.

Reply:I have read all of Lisa's books and we e-mail one another. She and I are both authors and both Californians, but she is in LA, while I am in SF. Did you know that she had a new book in the stores since June 26? It is "Peony In Love". It was interesting to learn about a language for Chinese women in SF%26amp;SF. Info needed on a flower called SNOW ON THE MOUNTAIN?

where can I get info on , where can I buy seeds or better yet plants of a flower called SNOW ON THE MOUNTAIN? Do they come back on their own every year? when do they bloom, for how long, climate soil basically everthing on this plant to make it grow %26amp; exist in my flower garden

Info needed on a flower called SNOW ON THE MOUNTAIN?
Euphorbia marginata aka 'Snow on the Mountain' is an easy plant to grow. When growing up as a child, we had a home in Iowa, and it did come back every year. It was originally planted in the early 1980's in the north east corner of our home. In the early 1990's it had spread all along the north side of our house, so it really seems to thrive in shade.

It can be purchased by seed at:

or if you live in the U.K.:

http://www.packetseeds.com/acatalog/Snow...

I wasn't able to locate a website that sold the plant. Good luck!
Reply:You might want to try this. Just make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. This site has plants.

Do you know about the snow drop flower? do you ever see?

I knew about snow drop from a comic book.

Snow drop is a white flower, it has small shape, and it can only grow on winter season. what do you think about it?

Do you know about the snow drop flower? do you ever see?
yes

it is about 6 inches = 15cm high and comes up after christmas - January
Reply:This should be what your looking for.

These are hardy bulbs, originally from Europe and Asia Minor. Two or three straplike leaves, dark green in color, grow from each bulb. The white flowers are usually borne singly, mostly in early spring but sometimes in mid to late winter, which makes them the earliest flowering bulb. In the south they may bloom from late fall through winter. The three inner petals have green tips and overlap the outer petals to form a tube.

The bulbs should be planted 3-4 inches deep in early autumn in fertile soil. They will thrive in sun or shade. Use the in rock gardens or as an edging plant. Snowdrops are also a good choice for forcing, naturalizing, and planting in lawns. Plant them with other early bulbs such as miniature irises and chionodoxa.

They may be left undisturbed for many years, but if you plan to move them or propogate the bulbs, lift just as the flowers fade.

All flowers are beautiful.
Reply:In the UK Snow Drops blossom at the end of Dec beginning of Jan they like hedgerows or covering and there are places near were I live were they cover wide areas of ground and give the appearance of snow.

What are the Vietnamese lyrics to 'Snow Flower'?

There is a beautiful song called Snow Flower. It's called Yuki No Hana in Japanese and sung by Mika Nakashima. In Korean, it's called Nooneuiggot and sung by Park Hyo Shin. It is also from a Korean drama called I'm Sorry, I Love You. I have the Korean and Japanese lyrics. But, I do not have the Vietnamese lyrics! The Viet version I have is sung by Minh Phuong. Can someone PLEASE get me the lyrics?! It's driving me crazy not knowing!!!!

Also if anyone can tell me where I can download the Chinese version and give me the lyrics to that, I would be very thankful!
