Our warm weather turning bitter cold, When to plant my flowers?

It has been very warm for the past 2-3 weeks. Today is was in the 80's. Very sunny and beautiful. So I bought 2 bushes I think they are called "Roderdimdrum" (spelling is probably off) and I also bought tons of Panzys and a few other delicate flowers. I was planning on planting them tomorrow but the forecast says we are in for a very cold cool down. The tempertures are supose to drop to 30 degrees by day friday and 25 degrees by night. They even say we may get some snow flurry and frost.

Should I hold off planting my plants/flowers?

If so can I keep them indoors?

If I plant them now would they likely die from the cold or could I cover them with plastic?

Any answers will be great. Thanks

I know what you are talking about %26amp; it makes a very nice tree or bush. Even though your tree would probably make it OK I would still hold off for warmer weather. The flowers would probably die so keep everything inside until it warms.

You can enjoy them inside for a few days. Just don't let them dry out.

These are some nice choices in my opinion %26amp; good luck with them. Also with your tree they like a lot of acid so keep the acid level up. I don't know the level to tell you but it should be easy to find out.
Reply:You need to consult a gardening map and understand which area you are in. Then people will be able to give you better advice in the future!

It sounds like you are having a warm spell. However, I would not plant Pansy's in my area (Calif - #9) as we are getting to the end of the "best time".

Given the low temps that you are predicting, I would keep all of the plants out of the cold and wait to plant them in your yard!

Good Luck!
Reply:thats what happened to us in Montana we are cold right now we had beautiful weather for a couple of weeks but now we have about 3 inches of snow on the ground I would wait to plant especially if they are annuals-let the ground warm up a little the cold weather could throw them into shock.
Reply:I live in the mountains of California and the weather can turn so fast!

Up hear we have learned to wait until after Mothers Day.

Yes, they could die from frost if you plant them now. Don't cover them with plastic, they will die.

If you invest in a seed starter that comes with a special light you can enjoy your flowers indoors way before you plant outdoors. (Burpee's Seed Co.)

Also, their are bulbs to plant in Fall that will come up in the Spring, because of the warm spell all my Daffodils have come up. Crocus too.
Reply:You can plant the pansies now and they will not suffer from the cold. A rhododendron tree is usually frost tender and will need some sort of cover during frosty days.

make sure you read the cards or tags that come with the plants and they will tell you the size and when to plant the plants.
Reply:everytime i have planted Pansies they have died if the weather has dropped below like 50.. i live in Illinois.. i have very bad luck with pansies but i can grow every thing else.. i would hold off on planting them some might survive but why risk it? i have my new plants that i started still in doors, good luck!
