Why do the birds always build a nest over my porch light?

Last 2 years it was a robin, this yr it's a red headed finch.

And the darn rabbits keep digging holes in my flower beds to nest w/ thier bunnies. I feel like friggin Snow White.

How do I stop them w/out hurting them?

Why do the birds always build a nest over my porch light?
You're not alone! The Wisconsin Humane Society has a few tips for this common problem, but keep in mind, you probably should implement these prevention techniques BEFORE the birds come to roost!

Birds find all kinds of places on houses to build their nests. The porch light fixture is a classic example. It's elevated, stable and flat on top--perfect for a nest.

The best prevention for this is to change the flatness on top. A forty-five degree slope will make it an unbuildable site for birds. Another way to stop nest-building is to attach a vertical mesh barrier to the spot.

Hope this helps,

Reply:the birds like the warmth of the light . for the light put steel wool in the holes the birds use. put chicken wire in your garden. its easier to place before the plants begin to grow but after planting. the plants can grow through but the bunnies cant burrow through.
Reply:First they feel secure in your house, second they like the warm of the light, third they know your behaivor toward them.
