Poetry for Children - Rhyming Couplets?

Hi there,

I am looking for some short poems (4 lines) with rhyming couplets. I want the poems for teaching my 1st grade class about poems/rhyming couplets, so they need to be simple and suitable for 6-7 year olds.

Here is an example poem we have already used:

Snow by Alic Wilkins.

The snow fell softly all the night,

It made a blanket soft and white.

It covered houses, flowers and ground,

But did not make a single sound.

Do you know of any poems I could use? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Reply:Down the slide i go,

hipp-hi-ho,

I land with a bump,

now i have a big lump!

The rain falls,

someone calls,

I start to run,

but then appears the sun.

My cat is very fat,

he can't get of the mat,

he is in a good mood,

when he eats his food.
Reply:Ogden Nash, William Blake, and WH Auden were excellent when it came to writing children's verse. Many of those poems are in couplets.
