Wedding costs?

I live in western new york and will be getting married in November of next year. Since we tend to have snow and cold weather I was able to get the location, flowers, photograhper, basically everthing cheaper than it would have been if I had a summer wedding. With all the dicsounts we are still spending close to $42,000 on the wedding. I am wondering what is the average cost of a wedding? what did your wedding cost?

Wedding costs?
Not sure of average, we are spending close to 25,000. Wedding is 08-08-08 in South Florida!
Reply:I got married 5 years ago and the total cost was approximately $25,000... $30,000 in todays dollars.... Or you could just spend $100.00 at city hall ... I dont see the point in spending much more nowadys the way this country is heading towards recession.... Congratulations, in advance.
Reply:I'm also getting married in NY in September (Saratoga Spring, though) and we're spending just under $25K.

It really depends on how much you're ABLE to spend. My fiance and are are kind of just starting out (we'll be 26 and 27 when we're married) so we wanted to still have money in the bank to buy a condo a year or so after the wedding, so we chose to keep costs down on the wedding. For example, we're not having a DJ (the best man and groomsmen are in charge of making announcements, and we rented a stereo with an iPod hook-up. We are also having the ceremony in a state park, so very few flowers and decoration are needing for the ceremony portion. We also got the cheapest sit-down dinner menu the hotel had for our reception. And instead of going to Hawaii, we're going to Vermont for our honeymoon. We did splurge on Photography, though, because we both agreed that the pictures would last forever, so we wanted a really good photographer.

I think I read somewhere that the average wedding cost these days is around $30,000.
Reply:$42,000 on ONE DAY!!!!

how much did we pay?? nothing.. had a justice of the peace marry us in my house... had neighbours as witnesses, and pizza afterward.. no guests.. no fancy stuff.. gave us a wonderful future to look forward to.. that was 4 years ago in May.. since then we have moved to an acreage...
Reply:The average UK wedding is between £18-20k thats between $36-40,000 i dont know if the average is higher or lower in the US though. We are probably going to spend £17,000 including the honeymoon. I am not sure if the average above is supposed to include the honeymoon or not though.
Reply:my sisters just had her wedding and she spent about 25000 but my whole family went to Poland thats where i used to live and half of my family was still their, so that was still with the coast of the plain tickets and all of that but the wedding was amazing, the food was great, the restrourant was faboulus and in a polish wedding it last two days, but it was really fantastic, a good tip for a wedding is that the littile kids are always bored and all they do is run around so try getting some toyes, for example my sister got these cars that you have to blow up a ballon and the air in the ballon is like the gas for the car and it makes it go , also bunch of glow bracilets/sticks, so many kids loved it and they did not bother their parents and for the glow stilck , by the end of the night everyone wanted one even the grandparents
Reply:Mine is costing about 40K. I live in Mass.
Reply:WHOA! No! that's an expensive wedding. With my dress being 2000 my whole wedding still costed us under 8,000- which was our budget!

Reply:My wedding was a little over $80,000--it was on a Friday night too. That included EVERYTHING. I never realized what went into planning a wedding...all the little things add up. The most important thing to spend your money on is FOOD and MUSIC. Those are the two things everyone will remember, so don't hold back. In California the average price of a wedding is around $25,000.
Reply:I read somewhere that the average wedding cost 26000 (US). I think the real question is how much can you afford to spend. If you can spend 50000 and not go in debt, then that's certainly your choice.

My parents gave us a sizable amount of money as a gift to do with as we choose. We are spending about 4500 on the wedding, 1500 on the honeymoon, and saving the rest for future financial needs (home ownership, paying down student loans, kids, etc.)
