Is spring here?

While having dinner with my husband last night I commented on how much snow had melted {we had well over 4 feet} and told him that I couldnt wait for spring to get here so I could plant flowers and get the kids out of the house. He told me spring was here and I asked him how he knew he told me because he saw a skunk and since skunks hybernate through the winter and come out in spring, that spring is here. I told him maybe the skunk was confused by our above 30 degree weather. Is he right that spring is here? Please if you live in or around my home state of Texas dont answer I know what the weather is like down there and it will only make me miss home more. I live just a few miles outside of Canada in ND right now and have had to have our children in the house since late september due to the cold wind and snow and live for spring and summer. Ive only been up here a yr so I dont now if the melting of the snow and the whole skunk thing is true.

Is spring here?
Spring officially arrives with the equinox which I believe is March 21 every year!
Reply:I grew up in New Jersey, so I knew cold. My wife is a Texan who experienced it for the first time last year. It was the wind through our shelter that had us freeze camping. Temps dropped into the 20s while we had rain, too, but nothing like y'all! Report It

Reply:I live in southern California and we have had three days in a row of temperatures in the 90's, so it has felt like summer here except the evenings and the mornings are still chilly (in the 50's- yeah, I know, but to us that's COLD). Spring officially starts on March 20th., at least according to my calendar. I have to say- I have never heard of the skunk thing, just the groundhog in PA . I can't even begin to imagine having to be housebound for all these months. That must be SO hard on you and your kids. I remember my mom having all five of us home on days the schools closed because of snow back in PA, and it was no picnic. I have to admit, though, she managed to come up with stuff to keep all of us amused and busy- not an easy task for kids who just want to be outdoors. God bless you!
Reply:We had a pretty chilly winter in Texas, actually. Problem is, aside from one week in December it didn't start until January. THEN it got cold, and it stayed chilly. We had lots of rain, and some ice on a few days, and areas north and west of us (my wife and I live in Houston) got snow. It just started warming back to normal after last week. We went camping on the 3rd of March. Daytime highs were in the low 60s, but dropped to the 30s with a strong breeze that night. I almost froze (my wife had a hood on her jacket) from the heat loss until I figured out to cover my head.

Even though it is mid-March I havent' seen bluebonnets yet. I'll have to take a drive this weekend (they grow wild along the freeways) to see.

Spring is really just starting, and I'm not trying to make you homesick, just to let you know it has been a bit late this year. Last I checked, though, skunks do NOT hibernate.
Reply:on the 21st. But today in Las Vegas it will reach almost 90 degrees.
Reply:Where I live, spring is a day by day sort of thing. So is summer or fall. It is possible to go through all four seasons in one afternoon sometimes. As of about eight oclock this morning it is spring, but that could change by noon.
Reply:the 21st!! IM SOO EXCITED!! yay! :)
Reply:Well ... depends on what people mean by "Spring".

Meteorological spring, in the northern hemisphere, begins on March 1.

Astronomical spring begins on March 21 Universal Time.

Local spring, for me, begins about 2 or 3 weeks before the last frost date. On average, for Wahpeton ND, that's May 23; for Linton its June 10th.
Reply:Its defiantly here in Florida
Reply:The way I tell that spring is near is the crocuses come up.

The way I tell that it's HERE is the bees come out.

But even these are not always 100% - sometimes it happens and we get another two or three weeks. But this is in New York - you may not even HAVE crocuses!
Reply:no sorry it doesn't come until march 20 2007!
