But take these words with your through the week. To me they are soooo true.
THE ROSE
Some say love it is a river
That drowns the tender reed.
Some say love it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love it is a hunger
An endless, aching need
I say love it is a flower,
And you it’s only seed.
THIS IS MY POINT!
It’s the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It’s the dream afraid of waking
That never takes the chance
It’s the one who won’t be taken,
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying
That never learns to live.
And the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long.
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong.
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed that with the sun’s love,
In the spring, becomes a rose.
Janice Joplin and Bette Middler as she played JJ in the film.
Do we all get down? Yes.?
A very timeless sentiment. I remember this from the movie "The Rose". You may enjoy this . . .
Reply::D i enjoy reading it.
Reply:I like it by Conway Twitty; it's a real tear jerker by whomever.
Reply:So very true. Even today 40 something years beyond when it was first written.
You really do have to step out there and first GIVE love, in order to receive love back....have to step out there and LIVE life in order to HAVE a life.
Nobody has said it much better than that since!
Reply:Love those gals. Help me through some tough times with their words.
Reply:Janice was one great singer. Bette is also fine. Great ol tune.
Reply:To my knowledge, this is a Bette Midler song (The Rose) from the movie of the same title...the movie NEVER said anything about Janice Joplin, nor was there ever an official thing said that it paralleled Janice's life. There were, perhaps, similarities, but that is where it ended. The role won Bette an Oscar, if I recall...her first venture into movies. She has been excellent in everything she has done, some of the roles did not live up to her talent. 1st Wives Club was one of the best. I miss Midler in concert, for she has a unique way of telling it like it is, starts with a monologue that segues into meaningful songs, or just craziness..either way, she has been one of our top live entertainers. IF you want ot hear her at her best, listen to the monologue leading into "Hello In There." The talk and the song will shred your heart! And, this 'piece' is particularly pertinent to many of us here, as it deals with the lonliness that some face in aging. Go to youtube and see if you can fine it under "Hello In There." Worth the time if you have not heard it. Love and Peace, Goldwing
Reply:This song has been a mantra for me for years! Thanks for the words. I can hear it running through my head.
Reply:How does it go again?
Reply:I have always enjoyed anything by Bette Midler and this is one of her best. The words are so profound. Love IS the answer.
