Anyone know how to write haikus?

I need 3 haikus using any of the following scenes:

+a red bird on the white snow

+a cat watching a bird

+fog haning over the harbor

+a fiery sunset at the beach

+a single flower among rocks

+a forest of pines in winter

Anyone know how to write haikus?

The metrical pattern of Haiku

Haiku-poems consist of respectively 5, 7 and 5 syllables in three units. In Japanese, this convention is a must, but in English, which has variation in the length of syllables, this can sometimes be difficult.

Reply:cold winter morning

a redbird on the white snow

see how it shivers

near grandfather's barn

a single flower among rocks

and his red tractor

blur in the distance

forest of pines in winter

even as it snows
Reply:The pattern is five syllables

then seven syllables

then five syllables

I would look for the topic that most interests you -then just use free association without trying to structure your thoughts or even make sense. Draw a circle and around each group of words and rank the ones you like best. Then start structuring.

Some people have done some pretty cool stuff with Haiku's, check out Joel Derfner's Gay Haiku:

Reply:you just write about the topic in this fashion:

5 syllables

7 syllables

5 syllables

Each line just has to have exactly that amount of syllables.
